Inside measurements oi tne Artmobile, a maximum sized trailer truck, are 34 feet long, 7 feet wide and 7 feet 10 inches high. When open for visitors, it is no longer just a trailer but is a carefully designed, museum. After the protective . canopies, staircases, illustrated panels attached to the exterior sides, and information booth are removed from their storage places and set up, the Artmobile is ready for visitors.
Planned by the'Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, the Artmobile represents the efforts of many civio-minded groups and individuals. In addition to Milter' and Rhoads, important donors to the Artmobile are John Lee Pratt, Mrs. Alfred I. duPont and Mrs. J. Gordon Smith, eadi of whom is a trustee of the Virginia Museum and the Gulf Oil * Company.
Sixteen Dutch and Flemish paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries, on loan for two years to the Virginia Museum by Walter P. Chrysler, Jr., are exhibited in fhe Artmobile. The paintings, by well known masters are carefully displayed and professionally spotlighted They will be replaced by a new exhibition every two years and the Artmobile will repeat its travels throughout the Commonwealth. : v
The Artmobile • accommodates >■ ; fifteen persons at a time. A visit takes fifteen minutes. A loud . speaker recordings provides explanatory information as visitors view the paintings. Visiting hours are:

Since the Artmobile was formally opened by Governor Battle at Fredericksburg in October 1953, ‘it has visited many cities and towns in Virginia. Response from school groups and the general public has been enthusiastic. .
