IN ANIMALS The average incubation time of rabies varies from 2 to 6 weeks, but in some cases may be prolonged as long as 6 months or a year. There are two types of rabias, the "furious” and “dumb” but these types may merge or appear at different stages in the same animal.

Then the dog becomes restless, irritable and agitated, particularly when restrained. Strangers may be attacked without warning. The aniqial will run and shy at the slightest noises. It barks and growls, snarling viciously at anything in its path. If free, it leaves the house, and travels many miles, attacking men and animal’s ■ alike, including the cats, dogs, poultry, horses, and cows with which it had lived peacefully. It attacks and passes on, to die in a. spastic fit, or fall with its legs paralyzed. Animals alffected with die dumb or paralytic type do not usually wander. This type may be unrecognized, 'although it is. common, since the stage of excitement or irritability is absent or unnoticed. Paralysis sets in early,' the jaws gape and saliva .drops from die mouth. Swallowing becomes painful, and then impossible. This gives the disease the name of “hydroprobia,” since neither pen nor animals can be induced to drink water.
