The best demand was fori steer calves under 600 pounds, and those grading good and better were mostly $24-27 per'hundredweight. Steers weighing 600 to 1,000 pounds and grading good and above brought $23-25. Good and above heifer prices were mostly $18-21.
At the Lynchburg and Dublin sales last week, steers bought about $4 more than last year with heifer prices up $1-2.
POTATOES
Potato prices jumped sharply last week under the pressure of dwindling supplies of old stocks, freeze damage to new potatoes, and speculation.

Supplies are on the upgrade and will reach last year’s level in a week or ten days. They continue up into May, and it looks like a weakened market is in prospect. Last week, prices in the State were down 2 cents to 27-28 cents a pound. The increase in supply was felt in other markets as Veil. Georgia prices were down 2 Cents to around 28, markets in North Carolina weakened 1 cent to 2930.
