Pot Damper On.

firemen’s Carnival

The Washington Firemen’s Parade was rained out Wednesday evening by squalls and steadily increasing winds preceding Hurricane Diane’s arrival here.

The 35 units, signed for the parade, in addition to local entries, were notified that the parade was called off, by way of radio stations WCVA Culpeper; WFTR . front Royal; and the stations-in Arlington and Mt. Jackson. Also the State Police radio station1 m Culpeper agreed to-notify all 1*> . cal police1 to turn back any parade units headed uv this direction.

The rainy jinx on the firemen’s Carnival began Tuesday ., night with an occasional sprinkling. Wednesday night, of course, was completely washed out by the hurricane. Rain Thursday afternoon dampened theings for that night. Friday, although relatively clear was damp and the carnival grounds muddy. Only Saturday night was clear. The proceeds of the carnival are undetermined.

What With the bad weather the carnival met both this and last year, and the rainy night the Ladies Carnival saw a few months ago, one individual has suggested ..a solution: When there is a dry spell let the county farmers pitch in and get the Washington Firemen to have a carnival. Then the rains are sure to come."
