With many of the qualifying A.S.C. practices regarding the application of both lime and fertilizer being based on soil tests and the crop to be grown, and especially the number of farmers involved the methods being used in taking soil samples has me much concerned. In fact I’m very much disturbed because it is evident that something is wrong somewhere. In casse where no lime and no fertilizer have been applied in the past three years results of tests should not be high in Ph, calcium, magnesium, phosphoric acid or potash. Also test results should not be low where liberal applications of these materials have been made in recent years. Yet results are coming in daily showing results that one would expect to be too high or tOQ low while about half are the results that you would expect.
This half-way business frets me. I plan to get repeat samples myself from the same fields that test results were received on yesterday. After asking questions on soil sampling proceedures employed by the farmers concerned and getting another test we should know with a fair degree of accuracy whether the
