You usually can count on:
(a) the price being a little cheaper.
(b) the reproduction health being good.
(c) time for the animals to become acclimated to your farm conditions.
(d) easier to locate with such sources as thos offered by Culpeper, Fauquier and Prince William Counties.
The third way to get started was by purchasing heifer calves from high producing cows that are sired by proven sires or sires of high production pedigrees.
The usual advantages5 are:
1. Allows more time for adjustments in the change over
2. Cheaper.
3. Not apt to be purchasing disease. 4. Greater opportunity to utilize homegrown feeds
5. You can be sure they' are vaccinated properly agajnst blackleg and Brucellosis. Disadvantage*
