“May Be Opened”

Many postal patrons are still needlessly writing “may be opened for postal inspection’’ on parcel post, packages, Postmaster General Arthur E. Summerfield said today.
Mr. Summerfield said he was calling this to public attention because many patrons apparently are not aware they no longer need to take time and trouble to put this notation on their parcel post.
A recent rule change, which has already won wide public favor, abolished the requirement that sealed parcel post packages contain the notation or be subject to higher postage rat's.
This means, Mr. Summerfield pointed out, that no parcel post» package, however it is sent, needs' to contain the “may be opened” inscription. (Unsealed parcels never have been subject to the requirement.) ■ «
