Not many years ago swimming holes, fishing and skating places were numerous along Rush River, and in addition to the river there was a full mill race that turned the big water wheel at Baggarlv's Mill. (There is no sign of the mill race now.)
A visit to the mill and old Mr. Hopper, the “dusty miller” were valways a part of the fun and education of the young of the vicinity who loved and followed the river.
Mr. Hopper always explained how the water from the mill race turned the big wheel, that turned the great mill stones that ground the yellow corn .that smelled so sweet
