If you are selling hay, there are no indications that the price will show much* improvement in the next month or so. In general, there is an ample supply of hay over the state. In the Valley, sizeable quanti tits are available for sale. This year has been rite first year since 1951 that we haven't had a short hay crop in some part of the state. _ For the nation, record stocks were on hand January 1, four per cent over last year and 27 percent over rite ten year average. Virginia’s 1958 crop was the largest, on record—up 35 percertf from die 1957 crop and one^ourth greater than average. If you are a dairyman and anticipate a need for good quality alfalfa, it might be wise to buy now. Even though wehad a record hay crop, supply of no. 1 alfalfa and no. 2 leaf alfalfa is limited. Iq the Valley this week; farmers were receiving $28 to $30 for no. 2 leafy alfalfa and no. 1 alfalfa. Number 2 alfalfa was bringing $24 to $26. GRASS & LEGUME SEED It lodes like prices on most grass and legume seed will be about the same price as last year. If we have any price change at all, it will likely be downward.
