James Lee Champ, 27 year old negro of Amissville, Va. is lodged in Rappahannock County jail at Washington, Va. on charges of homicide, following' the Sunday April 12 pistol slaying of Ruth Ellen Dearing, 38 year old negro.
While a freak snow storm raged outside,, Ruth Dearing mother of seven children, was fatally shot, once in the chest, the stomach and hip by James Champ, as three of , her children, Teresie Virginia, Fred George, and Sarah Elizabeth witnessed the brutal slaying. One of the bullets lodged in the hand of the baby she was holding.
