Here’s what’s being planned: (1) It has been proposed that 40% of the money from the present tax on local telephone service be diverted to the individual states; (2) under the proposal each statewould levy its own tax (up to 4%) on local telephone service; (3) the federal exeise tax on local telephone service would drop to 6% *, (4) the total effect of the two would still be that of a 10% tax, and the present 10% tax on long distance service would still remain.
If this all happens you can bet your bottom dollar on two tilings: (l)you as a telephone userNvill get no tax relief ; and (2) the unfair Wartime Telephone Excise tax will become solidly entrenched in your state tax structure.
The time has come, we believe, for the telephone users of America to join with the telephone industry in its endeavers to convince the nations lawmakers the 10% Wartime Excise Tax levied on telephone users should be repealed.
Here’s how you can help: (1) Write your Congressman or Senator and protest the continuance of the: 10% Wartime Excise Tax on the use of telephones; and (2) condemn the proposed plan of giving 40% of the telephone tax on local telephone service to the individual states.
