Over a million and a half children under 18 today thtroughout the country are receiving monthlycheeks from the social security insurance of their deceased parent— mother or father—who had worked and was insured by this work unde, social security. In Rappahannock County there are nearly 100 minor children receiving these monthly survivor checks.
Miss Schaffner said more than 21 million men. women and children have benefited from retirement, disability and family survivor features of the law.
Last week’s 25th Anniversary of Social Security is of interest not only to these 21 million persons who have received benefits from the program. There are 67 million Americans now working for wages, or operating then- own farms or businesses, and of these, over 60 million are covered by social security.
