Blue Ridge Fruit Growers Cooperative at| Sperryville, Va.. processors of famous Skyline Drive Brand apple juice, has installed a new press atj the plant for extracting the juice from the apples.
After apples are weighed, graded and washedi they are'erushed and the large Willmes, press extracts the juice which is carried by pipeline throughLthe continuous process when the finished product come to the end of the line in gleaming tins or bright bortles.
From the press is is piped to the basement where it is screened and pulp taken put. Next step is to pump it to the stainless steel holding tanks and through clarification units to a pasteurizer where the juice is heated to 180 degrees F. Automatic controls maintain the juice at a constant temperature, for holding the proper, even temperature during pasteurization is necessary to help preserve good flavor.
