The Commission was also helped' by the Virginia Education Associa-' tion, The Virginia Teachers Association, The Virginia School Board Association and the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers and the Virginia Association of School Administrators. .Virginians spent about one hundred and eighty-one million dollars ($181,000,000) to operate public schools in Virginia in the 1958-59 school year, exclusive of construe- .f tion and interest charges showing that public education is indeed a most vital element in the life of all Virginians. , n
The Commission urged a general “AWARENESS" of all Virginians of the urgent need to evaluate the entire educational system to a new level of discipline and excellence and to help create a “CLIMATE OF PUBLIC OPINION” where first things are placed'" first and mediocre schools disappear from the State.
