Scotchtown, in upper Hanover County, some eight or ten miles northwest of Ashland, was the home of Patrick Henry, the “Torch of the Revolution,’’ from 1771-1778, seven of the most dramatic years of his life.
The choice of scenes from “The Merchant of Venice” to be presented in support of the resforation fund for this historic home, seems especially significant, since mOre than likely, Patrick Henry himself was an interested spectator when this play was given at the Williamsburg Playhouse nearly two centuries ago.
Dr. Grahanie F. Henson, the director, plays the part of Shylock.
