“Ned” Johnson,Jr., beef cattleman and orchardist from Sperryville has been selected as Conservationist of the Year in Rappahannock County by the Culpeper Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors. Citations were presented to winners in each of the five counties which comprise the district. Presentations were made at a banquet held Monday night in Culpeper for representatives from all five counties and their wives.

“Conservationists of the Year” were chosen on the basis of the quality and quantity of conservation work done on the farm of each contestant. Those farmers who had used each acre of their land for the purpose for which it was best suited arid treated it according to its needs for protection and improvement were considered in the selection.
