Dies After Lengthy
Illness
Mrs. Mildred Miller Thornton of Sperryville, Va., died Monday, October 16 in a Staunton Hospital after a long illness. She was 66. Mrs. Thornton was the widow of •Philip Lee Thornton, and a native of Rappahannock County. She was the daughter of John James Miller and Lucy Lillard Miller. She was a retired Home Economist of Farm Security and a member of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Thornton are two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Fletcher, Sperryville and Mrs. J. Rodes Brown, Jr., Staunton; two sons, P. Lee Thornton, Sperryville and James M. Thornton, Gate City, Va.; and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. W. S. Stevens of St. Petersburg, Fla. and two brothers, Silas D. Miller of Culpeper and G. Brown Miller of Sperryville.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. yesterday (Wednesday) in Fairview Cemetery, Culpeper with the Rev, H. E. Nicholson officiating.
Pallbearers were J. C. Eller, Dr. O. K. Burhette, Montague Williams, French Slaughter, Jr., Joe D. Keyser, Harry Stephenson, T. C. Henderson and Jack Fray.
Clore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Claude S. Harrell
Claude Swanson Harrell of Sperryville died Saturday, October 14, at Amissville. Son of the late John S. Harrell and Savilla Dodson Harrell, and a native of Rappahannock County, he was 56.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Margaret M. J)wyer of Sperryville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 17, from the graveside in Washington Masonic Cemetery. Eld. J. H. Daily officiated.
Pallbearers were Jom Carroll, Thurman Woodward,. Frank Atkins, John Johnson, Harvey Gagiier and Charles Dwyer.
