Many people have the mistaken idea that items of food and drink are contaminated when the rays of raidoactive fall-out passes through them. Food and liquids protected in glass or metal containers, even celophane bags, are, perfectly safe for consumption.
If they have been subjected to fall-out radiation, it is sufficient to wash or wipe off the active fall, out particles before using, and to be certain that these particles do not get into the body, or remain on the person or his clothing, or in the shelter.
The dangerous fall-out particles are the size of ordinary grains of salt, or larger. The very fine siltlike dust, so often found in furniture and floors of the home is not capable of cantaining a lethal dose of radiation.
