First Lieutenant Ellen Gore Crooks, right, receives her captain’s bars in promotion ceremonies from Lieutenant Colonel Barbara Cullom, Assistant Chief of Brooke General Hospital's Nursing Service, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. She received her promotion October 12, 1967 and is an assistant head nurse at the hospital. Captain Crooks is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gore of Castleton. She met her husband, James, while he was her patient at Brooke General Hospital recovering from wounds sustained in Vietnam. Mr. and Mrs. Crooks are making their home in San Antonio while she completes her tour of duty with the U. S. Army.
