Winners Announced in Town Light Contest
The Town of Washington was in gay festive dress for the holiday season. The town Christmas tree in the lot between the bank and fire house was decorated with lights and many of the homes were decorated for the door decoration contest. They featured all types from traditional wreaths to elaborate spotlighted entrances.
Decorations were judged on Christmas I£ve and those eligible for entering the contest included all subscribers to the town water system. First prize went to Mr. and Mrs. T. Morton Johnston who had their spotlighted door covered with red felt, featuring a three tiered gold planter effect with Della Robbia fruit. At the bottom of the door was a Merry Christmas in felt and in the corners flanking the door were gold angels and greens. The antique carriage lights on each side of the door and the lantern at the end of the walk were decorated with greens and red ribbon to mm plete the holiday theme. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Walker at the Washington House were judged in second place. An electric candle in each window gave the charm of a bygone era to the Parly American building and a lighted tree on the front door offered the final decorative touch. "'The home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Buntin and daughter Nancy received third place with its modern stylized door featuring a foil background for green candles and a large many-colored medallion. A spotlight brought out the decorations.
Honorable mention went to Mr. and Mrs. James Freeman for their overall house decoration displaying a blinking star on the end of the house and a spotlighted doorway. Other doors and decorations which created interest included everything from Santa Claus to Carolers. A Christmas party for children of the community was held at the Washington Theatre on Tuesday following Christmas. It was well attended. Youngsters were entertained with the film “Pinocchio in Outer Space’ and were served ^refreshments.
