Cub Scouts Hold
Blue & Gold Banquet
Cub Scout Pack 123 of Rappahannock held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet Friday evening at the Episcopal Parish hall In Washington. The pack consists of two dens of youngsters from the Flint HiU area primarily, with Mrs. Pud Nichols and Mrs. Michael Vest as Den Mothers. More than 86 Cubs, Scouts, families and guests attended the dinner.
Bryant Lee became a Bob Cat and received his pin and a big howl from fellow Pack members. Obtaining Silver Arrow points of a Wolf Badge were John Vest and Brian Welch. Scholar and Geology badges were given the following Webelos: Curtis Nichols, Kevin Raney, Roger Smoot, Kevin Adkins, Jeffrey Foster, James Fountain and Thomas Jett. Those promoted from Cubs to Webelos were Brian Welch, Michael Williams, Roger Smoot and Kevin Adkins. Among guests present for the dinner and program were Mrs. Mary Quaintance, principal of the local elementary school and Mrs. Frances Salter a teacher who is instructor for six of these boys. Others were Rev. James Adkins, Rev. B. Gale Titchenell, Mrs. Titchenell and family; Rev. Jerry Campbell, Cubmaster Rev. 1 William Hargett, Mrs. Hargett and i daughters; and District Executive ; Carroll Sheppard of Woodstock, i Mr. Sheppard is affiliated with i Shenrapawa District which. includes the counties oft Shenandoah, Rappahannock, Warren and Page.
Den 2, supervised by Mrs. Vest, opened the program with a patriotic sketch consisting of readings and Den 1, under the direction of Mn. JiMwh presented a skit, “The Growing Machine”. The group of Webelos, with James Fountain as their leader, displayed a volcano they had made which actually erupted.
Rev. James Adkins and Rev. Jerry Campbell presented the invocation and benediction, respectively, and Cubmaster Hargett was master of ceremonies for the dinner and program.
Spong Named To Naval Academy Board
Senator William B. Spong, jr. (D-Va.) has been appointed to the Board of Visitors of the U. S. Naval Academy.
Senators are appointed to the Naval Academy's board by the Vice-President for one-year terms. Senator Spong’s appointment was announced in the Senate on February 24, Senator Spong previously has been a member of the board ofJ visitors of the U. S. Air Force 1 Academy.
