Who Flees on Foot
Kenneth Theodore Putnam, 20, of Charlottesville was apprehended by officers Saturday night following a swift pursuit after he sped through radar near Flint Hill on Route 522. When Putnam’s vehicle was clocked at 74 through radar, Tro&per R. M. Dodson pursued. Upon realizing he was being followed, Putnam kicked it and ran at speeds of 100 mph before swerving into the Old Mill Snack bar just east of Washington, Va. and fleeing on foot. # Trooper Dodson called for police trained dogs but before much action could be taken with the dogs. Trooper K. L. Miller, petroling in the car with Deputy Billy Alther, spotted the fugitive hitchhiking on Route 211 east of the by-pass construction project and apprehended him.
He was charged with reckless driving attempting to evade a police office, speeding, possession of a stolen vehicle, and operating on a revoked license. Further investigation disclosed he had taken the car from the parking lot of a Charles Town, W. Va. race track and was returning to his home in Charlottesville.
