CRUTCHFIELD said that the proposed transmission line will provide Vepco customers with “improved reliability by bringing another 500,000 volt line from the Mount Storm Power Station to the Vepco service area.”
The 500,000 volt transmission systems of Vepco and Alleghany are interconnected at the Mount Storm generating station. A third unit of 555,000 kilowatts generating capability is now under construction at Vepco’s Mount Storm Power Station due for completion in 1973.
Officials of both companies said the proposed line is “needed to provide additional transfer capacity to move power from new generating sources into the Northern Virginia area served by both utilities.”
