The Social Security Administration is hoping to lock the barn door on flimflam artists before they can victimize more Medicare beneficiaries in the Winchester area as they have in other parts of the country. There have been victims in the Winchester and Front Royal area already.
Social Security Administration headquarters in Baltimore says confidence men, posing as Social Security Representatives, have bilked people in the over-65 group of from $25 to $1,000 by promising them “increased benefits.”
Mrs. Hazel F. Crumpton, district manager in Winchester, said, “We don’t wish to alarm people over 65, but we do want to put them on notice as to how some of these schemes op erate, so they won’t be victimized.”
