4. In ’71 and ’72 the County allocated to the Library $2000 yearly support. This amount enabled the Rappahannock Library to qualify for State aid because the County was contributing tax money equal to 40 cents per county resident. The County budget now proposes that the contribution in 1973 be cut to $ 500, which will be less than the 40 cents per person minimum requirement. The Library will, therefore, lose its present State aid of $604 for yearly Purchase of new books.
The Library will also lose the chance of getting up to $2400 per annum in 1975 when it is expected that the Virginia General Assembly will make possible full funding, instead of the present 22% funding, of the $4,500,000 in the State budget allocation for Library Assistance.
5. The response to the Rappahannock Library’s recent request by mail for donations has been disappointing — in fact, $500 less than anticipated, because, once again, it’s felt the Library is on easy street.
