Library status
ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS well, but ours is a tale of woe, at this stage. The end can still be better. Amazing progress was made in a short time when a public library for Rappahannock was organized in 1964. This facility has been stocked and staffed and developed smoothly into a useful addition for the cultural development of the people.
The library has grown and prospered with the help of individuals, clubs, groups and foundations. The book selection has been enlarged and service improved over the years, and recently a heating and lighting system, both much needed, were installed.
These are tremendous assets, BUT the operating funds have been depleted. In the ensuing years, contributions have not J>een as steady and foundation grants declining, because many people have misunderstood the situation and failed to contribute as they had previously. The financial status of the library is shaky..
An urgent plea therefore goes out to all persons who have an interest in the county and are loth to see a good thing wither.
