NOMINATIONS for candidates for the Rappahannock Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Community Committees will be open through Monday, October 29, reports T.R. Taylor, chairman of the Rappahannock County ASC committee.
Taylor says that as far as is known, no petitions have been signed nominating candidates to date. The petition period began October 4.
Under the ASC farmerelected committee system, wheat, feed grain, farm facility loans, wool, and other federal farm programs are administered by local farriers. Elections are held annually by mail and newly-elected committee members take office on Januray 1 of each year.
Preceding the November-December mail election, any three farmers may nominate a candidate by signing a petition. Farmers may sign as many petitions as they like. The petition may be on any sheet of paper as long as it includes a statement that the nominee has agreed to serve if elected. Nominating petitions must be turned in at the Rappahannock county ASCS office, Washington, Va. not later than October 29, 1973.
IF FEWER than six candidates are nominated by petition, the Community committees now in office will fill the slates.
