An applicant must be at least 20. Under circumstances considered justifiable by local school authorities, the age limit may be lowered; however, no applicant may take the tests prior to the time that he would have graduated from high school had he remained in school and made normal progress. A person under 20 must have earned at least eight units of high school credit, excluding health and physical education, to be eligible to take the GED tests.
Applicants also must either be permanent residents of Virginia or have resided in the State six months prior to applying for testing.
