.“SAVE OUR Streams... Adopt One!” is the title of the presentation by Jack Lorenz for the June 7 Water Quality meeting sponsored by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection at the County Court House in Washington, Va. at 8 p.m.
Lorenz is the editor of “Outdoor America,” and information director of the Izaac Walton League of America. His speech title is also the motto of the nationwide program launched a year ago by the Izaac Walton League, to restore and protect waterways throughout America. A short film will be included.
“Every citizen can become a member of the Save Our Streams program,” says Lorenz. Some indik viduals or groups with more time can adopt and care for a whole river, or a segment of a stream, and improve all aspects of the watershed. Others can participate by simply noting and referring problems for corrective action.
Sources of erosion or pollution can be eliminated; refuse and trash can be collected from the stream banks; access trails or small footbridges can be built for fishermen and nature enthusiasts; trees can be planted; add other beneficial modifications can be taken to enhance the quality of the whole area.
Everyone interested in learning about or becoming a part of the “Save Our Streams” program should attend the RLEP Water Quality meeting on June 7 in the county court house. C
