RAPPAHANNOCK’S Supervisors on January 8 authorized spending $1,500 on painting and general repairs to the county jail building, but they stopped short of approving the purchase and installation of a new furnace.

Sheriff William A. Buntin and Fanning Baumgardner said they had toured the jail building, made a list of repairs that are needed and then obtained several estimates. They’d also researched how much it would cost to purchase and install a new furnace. “That would be in the neighborhood of $5,500,” Baumgardner said.
