Articles appearing with increasing frequency in the national press about efforts to extend the school years to shockingly early years—three or four years old in some instances—are even more disquieting. After universal kindergarten, will the educational experimenters then attempt to extend their influence to the cradle?
In .lands where collectives and kibbutzim are established policy, and the state takes over the care of infants from the time of their birth, some educational trends in this country might not be much cause for alarm. The view from up here in the hills of Rappahannock, however, is alarming, and if some local jurisdictions—and some parents—don’t swallow all of the educational fiats issued from Richmond or Washington, D. C., then they should have that privilege.
