One-hundred and eighty-five traffic deaths for the first three months of 1977 in Virginia were below the 198 for the same period of 1976, according to Colonel D.M. Slane, Superintendent of State Police.
“Last year was the first time we have had four consecutive years of death reduction. We are down the first quarter of this year and apparently on our way to our fifth consecutive year. However, the 1977 total is certain to be slightly higher due to late reports and deaths of persons now carried as injured,” Slane said.
