Mary Katherine Walter Riley* 95, died Nov. 11. .1008.
Mrs. Riley was known around the Amissvilie area as the local historian and was a descendant of the Amiss family, after which Amissvilie is named
A master quilter, she had made over 55 quilts during her lifetime. She had also worked at Early's Carpets for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband Stanish Sam Riley; her parents. John Leslie Walter and Mary Virginia Goff Walter; two sisters, Hilda Rowzie and Lorelie Marlowe; and three brothers, Sherwin, Amiss and Byrne Walter. A niece. Jacqueline Newton, whom she raised as a daughter, also predeceased her.
Survivors include a brother, Leslie Leland Walter.
Graveside funeral services were held Nov. 14 at the Amissvilie Baptist Church Cemetery, with Dr. Ed Taylor conducting the service.
