The purpose of these demon* strati on* is an effort to And out whether our soils are deficient in minor elements to the extent that plant growth is affected. Of eoume it is known that baron is a minor element important to maximum alfalfa production however, there is much publicity being given other minor elemtn deficiencies, which of course is applicable in eosne section of the United States. Should response from the application of minor elements be found from theee demonstration* further research Will be conducted, j

About one out of every twelve fanners in Rappahannock county will find a card in his mail box around December 1 which has been placed there by his Rural Mail Carrier. This card .is distributed at the request of tho Department of Agriculture in order to secure information for estimating the number of livestock on farms, the number of fall pigs, an - indication for the spring pig crop, and tho number of chickens ^and
layers on farms. Accurate information concerning livestock and > poultry is essential for sounds marketing plans and for production planning. Tho information obtained from this survey is used by many farmers, by offices of ; livestock associations, by specialists st VPI and of the U. 8. Department of Agriculture, and by County Agents in order to solve many of our livestock problems. This, will bo tho twenty-sixth year that this survey has been conducted and most fanners are probably already familiar with these cards. The accuracy of the survey depends upon a large number of reports being returned. Therefore, I urge each farmer in this county., who receives one of these cards to take a few minutes time to fill it out, and then put it back in his mail box for his Rural Mail Carrier.
