Governor John Stewart Battle is still recovering from the astonishment he experienced when his secretary opened the door of his office and showed in the three little “angels” who apologized for not having an appointment.
The callers, complete with long gowns and wings and strongly resembling the three angel'children on the 1950 Christmas Seal were ( Mary Ponnen Todjpan, Chandler Massey, and John David Jones 111. "Tommy” Jones is the ' greatgrand-son of Jacob Riis, father of tbh Christmas Seel in America/ '* *
Along with the scroll and musical, instruments held by the angels in the 1950 Seal, the' Governor’s little callers each carried sheets of Seals. And they started their business like this: —
"We wish to offer you the first sheets of Seals of the 1950 Christ-*, mas Seal Sale,” said T o mm y1 Jones, spokesman, moving closer to the Governor. “That is, w'e’re selling them, not giving them away,” he added hastily.
The Governor solemnly thanked the children and stooped low to take the sheets bf Seals and shake each child’s hand. He then went immediately to his desk, wrote his check for the Seals and handed it to the great-grandson of Jacob Riis, the father of the Christmas Seal in America. Then he told his youthful visitors: | “This year’s -Seal has a special meaning for yo» youngsters. The three child angels on the Seal remind us that the fight against tuberculosis is a fight to, make sthi*4 state a safer and healthier one "for-"' you children to live and play and grow in.”
Governor Battle then added the following:
