Virginia Orchestra To Be

At a well attended meeting in the Sperryville school last Thursday evening a group Of- enthusiastic men and women formally or. ganized the Blue Ridge Music Festival Association, with our county as the headquarters of the State orchestra and the center of summer musical concerts. -* >

William Haaker, director of the Virginia Orchestra, told an interesting story of his experience in organizing and operating a sim-y ilar plan in Arkansas before coming to Virginia three years ago' to head the State ' organization here.

The program will be divided * into two parts. One will be the • selection of well qualified musicians to spend ieveral weeks in Rappahannock teaching musical students from this and other states. This part of the program will be self-supporting from modest tuition fees paid by the students. Teachers and students will pay their board in homes or, at a convenient center.

The other part of the program provides for at least three concerts to be given,by musicians of note who will come here for this purposes. The number of these concerts and the number of musicians participating will be governed by the number of tickets sold in advance at $3 each.
