Rappahannock farmers, by purchasing more purebred sires in proportion to livestock numbers, during: the period of November 17, 1950-November 18th, 1951, again led all other Virginia counties in the Better Sires Campaign sponsored by the various purebred breed associations!
During this period*a total of 94 registered sires were KNOWN to have been purchased, as compared to a (total of 80 in 1948, the year when Rappahanonck last won the distinction.
The breakdown of the 1950-51 total includes: (cattle) Angus 44, Herefords 10, Shorthorns 2 and Brahmas 2; (sheep) Hampshires 31 and Southdowns 1; (swine) Poland Chinas 4, Durocs 1> and Spotted Poland Chinas 1.
