Thanksgiving
The good old American feast is here. Strictly our own American heritage, we like to think of Thanksgiving as a representation of our nation: a home gathering of the family, to attend church services in the morning and give thanks to God for the blessings of our land, and to over-eat at the family dinner table.
The history of Thanksgiving becomes more charming as the years roll by and story-tellers gather new facts about which to weave a tale. Most of us are inclined to think that fiction aids fact in making a god story, but some of the facts are true, if slightly glamorized by time and telling.
While Mother i s wondering whether the turkey will be sufficient for tomorrow’s hash, and the company is sitting about, stupidly stuffed with too much turkey-andall-the-fixin’s, a few thoughts drift by about the Pilgrims at that first Thanksgiving dinner.
