'Music Festival Plans
2nd Annual Summer
The election of executive of* fleers and the formulation of concert plans for the second annual Blue Ridge Music Festival were highlights of the Festival Association's November meeting which; has just been held in Washington, Virginia.
’Chief interest at the meeting was centered on the nominations of Board Members from six Virginia counties and five Old Dominion cities. Planned as a civic musical project with state-wide appeal, the 1952 Festival Will Include ^representatives from Madison, Page, Orange, Culpeper, Fauquier and Warren counties and officers from Arlington, Middleburg; Winchester, Alexandria and Strasburg.
Meeting at the home of Mrs. D. D. Miller, the Association elected Charles B. Wood of Flint Hill, as the chairman of the Executive Board. Other appointments are not complete, but will be published at a later date. T. C. Lea of Washington was re-elected as treasurer for a second term. Prior to the'election of officers, Dr. S. J. Cole of Orange was appointed Acting Secretary for this November meeting.
Guest speaker for this special Blue Ridge Music Festival Association meeting was Conductor William Haaker, who journeyed I from state capitol to present the seasonal plans for this second annual festival. Conductor Haaker stressed the importance of the summer music series to the people of the surrounding counties and cited the work of the Virginia Orchestra in bringing good music to the state’s outlying areas. This year marks the third annual tour of the state symphony and will extend from April 5 through May 20. Haaker spoke at the festival meeting just prior to his embarkation on a .piano recital tour that will take him to Georgia, Mississippi and throughout the state of Texas.
