Lelia Gentry was selected area winner in the area contest in Home Improvement, Saturday, > ^ A.

Area contest in 4-H club home economics projects was held in the Culpeper High School, in Culpeper County, Saturday, October 17. Counties in this area include Culpeper, Albemarle, * Green, Louisa, Fauquier, Madison, Rappahannock, Prince William and Fairfax. County winners competed in a variety of projects including food preparation and preservation, clothing, laundry, and home improvement.

Judges for the contest were home agents from counties participating: Miss Hallie Hughes, Associate State 4-H Club Agent, and Miss Eva Minix, District Agent for Northern Virginia. General arrangement for the area contest were made by Miss Elizabeth Farrar, Culpeper Home Demonstration Agent, and Miss Eva Minix, District Agent.

Participating in the contests from Rappahannock County were: Lelia Gentry, entering Home Improvement; Betty Rutherford, entering food preparation; and Caroletta Gough, entering clothing achievement. They were accompanied by Elizabeth Fuss, County Home Demonstration Agent. Winners were Lelia Gentry, blue ribbon and selected as area contestant to enter district.^

G. M. Willis, Jr., Graduates

From Naval Hospital School

George Menefee Willis, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. G, M. Willis- of Petersburg has been graduated from the Naval Hospital Corps School, Bainbridge, Maryland. Mr. Willis, who entered the Navy on February 18, 1953, graduated with the highest scholastic standing in his class, a 99.1 average. He also excelled in football at Bainbridge. Young Willis is a grandson of Byrd M. Willis; a great-grandson of Capt. Achille Murat Willis of "San Jacinto," Rappahannock County and a nephew of Byrd. Murat Willis, Jr, of Richmond and Frank Armentrout of Woodville. After graduation he reports to the Quantico Marine Base where he will be assigned to duty.
