Part of 4he publicity goal of the County Council was to- tell the story of an outstanding boy or girl each month in the column, 4-H’er of the month. The two banks, Rappahannock National and First National Bank of Flint Hill, have contributed $1.20 each month to pay for print of the 4-H’er’s picture.

Betty Ruthreford has been selected as outstanding 4-H’er for the month of February. Betty has been an active 4-H’er for eight years having completed 19 projects. At present her leadership record include president of the county council, secretary of Washington 4-H club and junior4* leader of her community, Sunday School teacher, member of church choir, game leader of girls auxiliary and member of glee club.

Awards won by Betty are:

1. County medals in electric, bread, and meal preparation projects.

?. 15 ribbons at the county fairs and _coumy- contests;--—

3. Expend' paid trip to 4-H Short Course in Blacksburg as result of being county winner of "Share The .Fun’’ Contest.

4. Winner of a red award on her demonstration given in four area contests. She entered area contest after being county winner of meal preparation project. Besides awards and honors won much of her 4-H record has been achieved through project w'ork and leadership.

This year Betty is takirfg room improvement, ironing, food preparation, breads, and farm and home electric. She was co-chairman of exhibit at the county fair, secretary of county council, junior leader, secretary of 4-H club, secretary and treasurer of girls auxiliary, Sunbeam teacher, Sunday School teacher, on committee to plan church budget, president of church choir and member of Glee Club. Her 4-H record from 46-52 shows 14 projects completed with community activities increasing each year. In 1947 she completed bread projects and was song leader in her club. In 1948 she was elected president and completed the foods preparation project. This was the beginning of project for which she has big dreams in rest of 4-H years. Betty has given a total of forty demonstrations on her projects and helped with all 4-H activities, as the 4-H suppers, fairs, etc. To quote Betty and at the same time show her enthusiasm: "You have probably been wondering if 4-H has been a pleasure to tpe. I have had to work for what I have gotten, but don’t we all? Yes, 4-H is part of my life. I have enjoyed every moment of it. It has really been a pleasure and I haven’t ever regreted the work part of it. I suppose I^fcrill continue to be a 4-H’er until.I am too old to be one. Then I will try to help other boys and girls.
