So Jesus took his position by.the Temple on the 8th day of the feast and declared Himself to be the source of that supernatural supply of water in the desert and also even more, He is the source of life in this world as well as the source of Eternal life. He also declared Himself to be able to quinch even thirst of man or need of man whether it be in the realm of the spiritual, a passion for purity and power, or whether it be in the region of the effectional nature. He is able to supply every need of man if we will only look to Him.
Now as to the Light of the world He also manifested Himself as the real source of light and we see a —perfect -exafo&le-of—what He meant when He was on the Cross and the Father turned His back upon Him and He became sin for Plan’s transgressions. There was a period of darkness such as the world has never seen before or ever shall see, showing what it meant to have the true light taken out of th world.
In the declaration of Himself as the Light of the world He was reminding them of the pillar of fire which led the people through the wilderness and that He is the guide which will guide us through the journey and wandering of life. The pillar of fire symbolized God’s presence, but Jesus was God’s real presence. He is the true interpretation of God, of life, holiness and the only true answer of man for truth. He can solve our every problem if we will only trust Him to do so.
This witness of Himself brought a division,among the listeners, some believed and others sought to slay Him. There are always those who are too blinded by prejudice, sin and tradition to understand the Lord’s teachings, but the encouraging thing is that there are always those who are filling to believe and cast themselves upon Him. These are the real happy people and the real salt of the earth.
