Farm Tours Begin

The Rappahannock Farm Tours sponsored by the Extension Agronomy Committee of our county will begin tomorrow as follows: 10:30 a. m. at I. L. Parrish farm near Estes, 2:00 p. m. at Woodrow Coughlin’s farm near Castleton. On Saturday, May 15th, a tour will be made of C. E. Johnson’s farm at Sperryville. The Extension Agronomy Committee is very much concerned over: the immuch
of our county’s farming land; the lack of a legume-grass hay mixtures in crop rotations; the small amount of land devoted to Alfalfa production; and the lack of know-how in controlling insects doing much harm to crops.
Farmers attending these farm • tours can see what these men are doing and how they do it successfully. While some of the things are identical many other shpw a different approach.
Why should one man using the same kind of seed, seeded at the same rate, fertilized and limed the same and grown on the same kind of soil have a stand of alfalfa or clover that is 15 to 25% more productive?
