County Approves 10c Levy, Earmarked

The new county budget which included a 10c tax levy increase, designated for school use, was ap- proved in Monday’s called meeting of the Board of Supervisors, with only one dissenting vote. In voting against the issue, the Boards Chairman, J. P. Cook, voiced the - belief that this 10c levy was not sufficient to serve its purpose. a At the beginning of this meeting, the minutes of the last regular meeting of the Board were read, upon request, to clarify the “purpose of the tax levy.” After a brief discussion, it was decided that the fund collected from the levy, about $3,500 a year, will be; used for no pre-designated plan, but for any school emergency, which might arise. Q. D. Gasque, too, felt that this was a more flexible, working plan. It was expressed, however, that the money be saved to buy equipment for a new school.
From the floor, E. M. Jones, asked that the money be put to some use so as tq* gain- interest. This proposal was not acted upon.
Following some further discussion, the budget with the levy inclusive, was adopted.
