The Rappahannock Chiefs lost the semi-final baseball series with Mt. Jackson, as they forfeited the second game after 5 innings on the Triplett diamond in Mt. Jack-,, son, Sunday. . -
The Mt. Jackson team had 16 runs while Rappahannock went scoreless. Joe Neff pitched for Mt. Jackson while Turner, Settle and Sisk worked for Rappahan. nock. Neff allowed only 2 hits in 5 innings. Harry McDonald got 2 triples and a single for 4 times at bat. D. Polk collected 2 doubles and a walk for 3 times up, after stealing third and coming home. . The Blue Sox were hitting demons,, each man in the lineup ■ getting at least one hit off the Rappahannock pitchers.
Though the Chiefs* finished as the second team in the League Standings, and the Mt. Jackson Blue Sox, fourth,. the Rappahannock Nine had trouble all season, in scoring against the Sox. The two consecutive one-sided defeats, of the Chiefs by the Sox this Sunday and last, proves a jinx.
However, though the Chiefs" failed to move to the finals, they can feel proud of their League Standing. They had a poor start early in the season, but as the players gained practice in the Sunday fames, they were hittingrvcry thing a pitcher could put across.
