Dies In Japan
Rappahannock citizens were grieved to hear of the tragic death of Major Angus Hopkins, Jr., of Woodstock, who lost his 'life in Japanese waters September 26, when a Japanese ferry was capsized and sank in atyphoon. Cfa\though not a native of Rappahannock County, the Major, his wife and children had many friends here.
Mrs. Anna Miller Hopkins, who has been making her home in Mt. Jackson since her husband has been stationed in Japan, received word yesterday from the Department of Defense notifying her that her husband was among the 1,600 victims of the -typhoon.
Major Hopkins, a veteran of - World War II, had been called back into active service in the 07 S. Air Corps about 4 years ago. For the past 18 months he had been stationed in Hokkaido. At the time of his death, he was enroute to the Central Island to return home, when the ferry on which he was a passenger was caught in the tropical typhoon, and sank losing all lives aboard.
Major Hopkins is survived by his wife and 3 small children, Hugh, 7 and twin daughters, 2; and his mother, Mrs. Janet Hopkins. ^Wednesday,
