1. Free vaccination by participating veterinarians for any calf, anywhere in Virginia
2. Free testing and retesting of herds signed under Plan A or herds under Plan B which agree to enter Plan A; * 3. Indemnity payments at the rate of one-third the difference between the appraisal and the salvage price for reacting animals under Plan A. The payments are not to exceed $25 for a grade animal or $50 for a registered purebred.
This program went into effect November 1.
The United States Department of Agriculture will pay participating veterinarians 50 cents per head for the calf vaccinations. Virginia will continue to furnish Brucella Strain 19 vaccine to all veterinarians for calf vaccination without cost.
The U. S. D. A. will pay approved veterinarians 50 cents a head for herd testing and retesting. Herds which have been certified as free from brucellosis after three consecutive clean tests will not be eligible for free testing. The free testing will be discontinued for infected herds after three consecutive clean tests. __ _
All reactors found in PlanA herds subsequent to November 1 are subsequent to indemnity. Herds operating under Plan A do not need to sign up again.
Herds now operating under Plan B may have all reactors now in their herd appraised and sign Plan A at the same time. A herd test must follow immediately and continue at 30 to 60-day intervals as provided under Plan A.
Reacting animals under Plan A will be tagged, branded and appraised by State or Federal veterinarians in accordance with laboratory reports of brucellosis tests.
