Pvt. Joseph T. Atkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Atkins, of Sperryville, has completed his basic training with the 501 st Airborne Infantry Regiment in Fort Jackson, South Carolina and is now taking advanced training in the mechanic school at Fort Jackson.
Pvt. Atkins will spend a 4-day Christmas leave with his parents.
Missionary Societies The W. M. S. of the Slate Mills Church held their monthly meeting Friday night at the home of Mrs. Robert J. Boyd. Mrs. R. L. Hudson gave the Christmas devotional and Mrs. Boyd was in charge of the program which concerned a more Christian observance of Christmas. The treasurer, Mrs. George Thornhill, reported that the Lottie Moon Offering for Foreign Missions was twice as large as it was last year.
Thursday evening the Ann Dwyer Girls’ Auxiliary and the Royal Ambassador Chapter of the Baptist Church sang carols at the Baptist Home in Culpeper, and afterwards enjoyed two Christmas movie shorts shown there that evening by the Telephone Company. There were fifteen in the group of young people and their leaders.
