Council Says “No”

In a Special Meeting held Tuesday night, the Washington Town Council decided against the leasing or selling of the present firehouse to the firemen, as requested by a committee of firemen in the March council' meeting. In order to either sell oor lease the building, the council reported,1 it would have to be agreed upon that they (representing the town) had no further use for the building. Then a 3/4 vote (5) must approve either the selling or leasing. Various other legal j transactions would have to be entered into. To exemplify, in leasing, following the agreement that there was no further use they Had for the building, and an affirmative 3/4 vote, they would file a bill with the Circuit Court Judge. Then if he gave them permission to continue, the council would advertise for bids on the lease and would have to accept the highest bid offered. . It seemed the sentiment of the •4 council, ladies present, Mrs. T. M. Johnston, Mrs. J. W. Critzer, Mrs. Milton Hawkins and Miss Ruby Jenkins, and the Mayor, Mrs. George Davis, that the council could not conscientiously say 1 that they had no further use far the boilding, and therefore further consideration would be useless.
