Horticultural Meeting
E. M. Jones, president of the Virginia State Horticultural Society, will serve as presiding officer and chairman of die Program Committee, at the Annual Meet-,; ing of the Society to be held January 23, 24, 25, 1956 at Hotel Roanoke. ! * * Among the topics of chief interest will be discussions of fruit promotion and production problems. Like the big Virginia Poultry Industry, the Fruit Growers of Virginia ask no governmental support programs. They feel that promotion and adjustment to meet itiarket demands are preferable.
Leading discussions ini the promotion field will be Reuben G. Benz of Yakima, Washington and J. Kenneth Robinson of Winches^ ter. Dr. R. M.'Smock of Cornell University, will discuss factors influencing quality of apples. Don Rubel, Director, Fruit ai»d Vegetable Division, Foreign Agricultural Service, U.S.D.A., Washington, D.C., will discuss bottlenecks to foreign markets in which Virginia apples were once an important commodity.
